I am Lauren, a Social Worker based in Paarl working in various rural areas in Drakenstein. I volunteered for the first time at The Hope Exchange Feed5000 campaign in 2019 and was humbled by the experience.
Although some clients took chances to come for seconds before everyone had a meal, the overall structure was good. Volunteering and serving clients makes you thankful for who and what you have in your life. It makes you appreciate the struggles and victories in your life. It was a pleasure to give back to the community.
What I took away was no matter how you live your life, never think you have it all because in a matter of minutes it could all be taken away. Never be judgemental, be patient and always serve others with a smile.
